Janos was probably the illegitemate son of Richard Schlesinger. His mother was a resident of
Schlesinger Majer, a farming community in Slovakia owned by the Schlesinger family. Janos
Hrusovszky Sr's family told the story of how Jan, (Janos' father) was the illegitimate son of a
king in Slovakia, and Julianna was a chambermaid there. There were no kings in Slovakia when
he was born. However, a wealthy landowner would have appeared to be a king to the very poor
families that resided and worked on his farm. Further, Julianna's brother's granddaughter,
(Julia Schallenhammer, #3830) tells me that her family was told that Julianna fell in love with
Richard Schlesinger and when she got pregant by him, he wouldn't then have anything to do
with her. Julia Schallenhammer also had a picture of Julianna and Jan, along with 2 other girls
whom are yet unidentifiable. Julianna (Jan's mother) took the name Szabo when she moved to
Hungary. Jan MIGHT have had a brother that came to US before the Hungarian Revolution.
1st, John Hrusovszky Sr's. Mom. In her obituary, it says her maiden name was Szegedi. However, I have been told her maiden name was Sztojkovics. Sztojkovics looks like an ethnic Serbian name. This would not be a surprise if she came from the Banat
area northeast of Belgrade, which after WW II became partly Yugoslavia, partly Romania. In the late 19th century, there was considerable pressure in Hungary to magyarize non-Hungarian family names, i.e., the name Szegedi might simply imply that the
Stojkovics magyarized their old name to a straightforward Hungarian name. Szegedi means "from Szeged" .... the city of Szeged was and is the Magyar center of that area. It might have been a good choice for a Magyar name. I don't know the reason, but
many magyarized names started with the same letter (in this case S) as the old non-magyar family name.
2nd, John Hrusovszky Sr's. father... originally for his father's birth record, the priest made a mistake and wrote Rusovszky instead of Hrusovsky. This was corrected in 1942 to Hrusovsky. The remark says: " cognomes matris recte est
Hrusovsky"....meaning, the correct surname of the mother is Hrusovsky. The same goes for the God-father Jan Hrusovsky (pronounced 'Yahn'). Jan was Julia's brother. The God parents were Jan Hrusovsky and Maria Tupy, both from Mnesice, as Julianna was.
There is no surname Rusovsky in Mnesice. The remark in the birth record of Julia says, that she married Jozef Szunovits 14 Apr 1921 in Budapest. Dad (John Hrusovszky Sr.) says he does not recall this person's name at all. He would have been the
husband to his grandmother.
Also, it appears that Jan Hrusovsky (my Grandfather) married in Budapest in 1937. Now, why his birth record was changed in 1942 is somewhat of a mystery, but it could be due to being war time, and he might have been drafted or had to prove he had no
Jewish ancestors (if, in fact, Schlesinger was his father AND he knew about it).
About the surname: Hrusovsky is male and Hrusovska is female. Written with the SZ is a Hungarian spelling. Hrusovsky is a Slovak surname and not Hungarian. Hruska is a pear. The surname Hrusovsky comes from the village of Hrusove, near Nove Mesto
n.Vahom. There is a Hrusovsky festival in Hrusove. The mother of Jan Hrusovsky originates from Melcice, which is now part of Nove Mesto, Slovakia.
From Czeck Genealogy Researcher: "I was in Bratislava Archive today and found a very interesting marriage in Nove Mesto by accident; oct.2.1906 Jan Schlesinger, father Jan, mother Anna Weinfurt, born in Vienna, Baumgarten, age 22
married Emilia Kosinar, Michal, Anna Masarik, from MNESICE #69, age 24. I think, the Schlesingers, that had the farm in Piestany, were living in Nove Mesto. Very wealthy family, when judged by the tombstones they still have here.
For now, the rest is left to our imagination. Sincerely, Vladimir"
Further, there was a notice sent to my father (John Hrusovszky Sr.) of a death notice that he thought was that of his father's. We have found that it is not. The notice (JanosHr1.jpg) is really a death notice of the late Ferenc Klasanszki's widow.
According the Hungarian tradition, there is no reference to the first or maiden name of the deceased woman. What is sure is that she was NOT the wife of Janos Hrusovszky. "Tavirati cim" means telegram (cable) address.
There is most likely NO kinship between the deceased and Janos Hrusovszky.

Some important Genealogy information on Hrusovszky's from Pat Drenton:
-----------------------------------
Back at the turn of the century (about 1900) my grandfather Jan Hrusovsky came over from Slovakia (then called Austria). Upon entry to the USA, immigration misspelled the name so it was, from then on, Hrusosky. He married either before or after
entering USA to Maria Mesaros, a Hungarian. Starting in Homestead, PA, and ending in Joliet, IL, they had 14 children, 7 of which grew to adulthood, and they are now all deceased..
We never knew anything about Grandpa's brothers and sisters, not even their names or where they were. Twenty years ago my mother's brother Ed Hrusosky (now deceased), upon retiring, started his effort to learn his grandparents' names and learn more
about them. He used the "write letters and send a little money" method and I, starting 15 years ago, used the "shotgun" approach, both of us hoping to stumble upon his parents. Uncle Ed made copious notes and I put my information on computer. My son
did work and still does for an airline so I flew standby and traveled to Pennsylvania, Minnesota, and Ohio and researched city and country and federal records, such as birth, marriage, and death certificates. Also I searched Social Security Death Index
records, immigration records, ships' records, census records, old telephone books and city directories.
Sometimes I used the films from the Mormon LDS Family History Center to research some of the records in Slovakia. I used to spend days and days on end doing this and thoroughly enjoyed it. But while I was gaining much information about all the
Hrusovsky's I could lay my hands on, NONE were of my grandfather Jan's parents, Stefan and Maria. I did not search ALL the records available as at that time LDS volunteers had not completed filming records in other record depositories in Slovakia.
One of the most productive things I did, about 8-10 years ago, was to get a look at phone books of Slovakia at the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. To all the 150 Hrusovsky's I found in those phone books I sent a
letter introducing myself and my mission, a blank pedigree chart, and return postage. This cost me about $300 but it was worth it. I was surprised at the results. About 75 answered, some of which contained just a little info, some did not understand a
pedigree chart, and unbelievably, some had done and sent me 6-7-8 GENERATIONS of Hrusovsky's. I hope one of these are yours A few of these were obviously linked but since few brothers and sisters of the replying Hrusovsky's were listed, most were not
obvious. . I now have 355 Hrusovsky's and 188 Hrusovska's in my data base.
I have never before shared this information with anyone as I had an undiagnosed illness while I was in my late 50's and working very hard at a job so all of this was put away for quite a few years, perhaps about 8.
Now that I am retired, settled, in better health and living part-time in Costa Rica, part-time in the USA, I have a lot of time on my hands and have so much Hrusovsky information and knowledge in my hands, I thought it wise to share this before I die
and it gets lost or put away for 25 years or forever. I am still doing research, little by little, and this summer will go back to the United States and spend a LOT of time researching my Hrusosky's in the microfilm of newspaper of Joliet, IL. Also, I
will be paying relatives in Slovakia to do further research about various Hrusovsky's and I will be glad to share any of this with you, if they appear to be related to you.
Some frequent related lines include: Akuratny, Augustinyak, Kollarik, Krompigel, Pipis, Rerko, Sefcsik/Schefftsik, Skolnik, and Vojtus, and many more, most from eastern Slovakia, but not all.
